    Renewable Energy, a New Approach Towards Prosperity


     At the Child Happiness Complex, Hebron Municipality launched the first phases of the Renewable Energies in Palestine project (RENEP), which is a joint project with Torino Municipality and other Italian Companies. This event was in the attendance of the Italian Consul, Mr. Fabio Sokolowicz, the Deputy Mayor of Torino, Mr. Guido Montanari, Mr. Waleed Halaika, a Representative of Ministry of Local Government, as well as other representatives of local institutions. This project is considered as one of the most important projects as it will ensure providing electricity despite the Israeli control over power resources.

    In his speech, Dr. Zatari welcomed the attendees and the Italian delegation, and underlined the importance of the RENEP project in rationalize the use of energy. He also called the Italian partners to provide support to the next phases of the project.  then, he touched on the Technology Park  project, a joint project with Italian Municipalities and partners, that aimed at creating start-up companies in different fields with a view to promote the economic development.
     
    In an earlier meeting before launching the first  phase of the project, Dr. Zatari spoke about the political situation of Hebron and the deep ties with many Italian municipalities. He pointed out to the twinning agreements signed between Hebron and Italian cities that opened doors towards implementation of vital projects.   
     
    Furthermore,  Mr. Halaika stressed that the RENEP Project deepens the bilateral ties between Italy and Palestine. He then praised the positive stances of the Italian Government in providing support to Palestinian cities particularly to Hebron through the PMSP .
     
    On the other part, Mr. Guido Montanari , Deputy Mayor of Turin, expressed happiness of the joint partnership, and added " the Palestinian people is a symbol of steadfastness and dignity". He also spoke about the RENEP project and helpful effects on the city , and promised that there will be other opportunities of support in fields of culture and education that aim at enhancing the living condition of citizens.
     
    Moreover, the newly appointed Consul General of Italy underlined the continuity of providing support to the Palestinian people through implementing vital projects particularly in the city of Hebron.
     
    During the event, two presentations about the RENEP project were viewed to put light on the latest developments of the project.  
     
    Thereafter, the delegation toured the Old city and visited the areas adjacent to Al-Ibrahimi Mosque to get a view of the current situation of Hebron and the Old City.
