The Mayor of Hebron, Dr. Daoud Zatari, met with Mr. Hon Luigui Di Maio, Vice President of the Italian Chamber of Deputies, who was accompanied by Mr. Manlio Di Stefano, Member of Committee of Foreign and Community Affairs, Ms. Ornella Bertorotta, Member of the Senate and the Committee of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Federico Dimonopoli, Deputy Consul, as well as Dr. Antonio La Rocca, PMSP Director.
To get a view of Hebron situation on the ground was among issues discussed in the meeting. The Mayor Zatari called the visiting delegation to exert pressure on all relevant parties to ensure their support for the Palestinian cause and the creation of a fully sovereign Palestinian State with Jerusalem as its capital. He raised the issue of the peace process and how the Palestinian leadership, chaired by President Abbas, is seeking a just and comprehensive peace and is trying to end occupation through negotiations.
Moreover, Dr. Zatari praised the role played by the Italian Government in providing support to the mutual Italian Palestinian projects, given the close ties and twinning agreements between Italian Municipalities and Hebron Municipality. Furthermore, he mentioned his last honoring with the Medal of Italian Star which is considered as an appreciation of the Italian Government for a significant Palestinian work.
On the other part, Mr. Di Maio thanked the Mayor for the warm reception and hospitality. He expressed his happiness at his visit to Palestine particularly to Hebron City, and underlined that the Italian Government is supporting the Palestinian Cause and rights.
